Hikers stumble across mysterious treasure hidden on a Czech mountain trail

Ten gold bracelets, 17 cigar cases, a powder compact, a comb, and a whopping 598 gold coins: The items are all part of a valuable and somewhat mysterious stash, found by chance by two hikers in the northeastern Czech Republic.

The hikers, who wish to remain anonymous, were taking a shortcut through the forest in the Krkonose Mountains -- a popular hiking spot -- when they saw an aluminum box sticking out of a stony wall.

Ghana expects to rake in $12 billion a year from small-scale gold production if output doubles as planned.

Gold exports from the country have surged as international prices have soared, and much of that expansion is down to small-mine and artisanal production. The government this year set up a regulator to handle all gold buying and selling, hoping to boost foreign-currency reserves and curb black-market trading.

China's gold imports surge to 11-month high despite record prices

China imported the most gold in nearly a year last month despite record prices, after heightened demand for the precious metal prompted the central bank to ease restrictions on bullion inflows.

Total gold imports to the country reached 127.5 metric tons, a 11-month high, according to customs data released today. This represents a 73% jump from a month earlier, even after gold hit successive all-time highs, at once point touching $3,500 an ounce.

The U.S. Federal Reserve just pulled off something stealthy. Over four days last week, without fanfare, the Fed vacuumed up $43.6 billion in U.S. Treasurys. That's $8.8 billion in long-dated 30-year bonds on May 8 alone, plus another $34.8 billion earlier in the week. Not exactly small change.
