Sunday''s Miami Herald reports on GATA and the gold price

Section: Daily Dispatches

Saturday, June 8, 2002

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

Here are highlights of my trip to Vancouver for
Joe Martin's mining conference(along with one
lowlight):

* Dinner with Samex Mining CEO Jeff Dahl and
Joe Tie, ChineseWorldNet.com honcho.
ChineseWorldNet is becoming the CNBC of China
and Joe intends to take the gold/GATA story
to Chinese all over the world. That is
already under way with their promotion of
www.ChineseGATA.org.

GATA cannot thank Jeff Dahl enough for all he
did for us in Vancouver. He also set up a
GATA booth next to Samex's with Alain
Despert's GATA painting and a big copy of the
Gold Derivative Banking Crisis story.

Samex's highly regarded geologist, Rob Kell,
gave an impressive private presentation of
Samex's Eskapa project in Bolivia to a group
of money managers and others. You never know
about these things, but Samex is in elephant
country and early drill results indicate
potential comparable to the other great
silver and gold finds in the area.

* Another Samex dinner was attended by
ChineseWorldNet.com executives, other big
names in the gold industry, and a GATA
supporter and member of
www.LeMetropoleCafe.com who came all the way
from Australia (with a Wallabies rugby shirt
for me). Much fun was had by all. Our Aussie
friend's comments left us with our mouths
open, as he knows the gold business cold and
confirmed to the attendees that GATA has been
correct all along.

* Meeting Cafe contributor Ed Steer, who
picked me up at the airport, and all the
other Cafe members andGATA supporters who
came by to say hello.

* Meeting the talented CEO of X-Cal
Resources, Sean Kennedy, who surprised me
with a generous contribution to GATA. Some of
his large shareholders are prominent
Europeans whom I have had the pleasure of
meeting and who have been Cafe members for
years. Royal Bank of Canada is also a large
shareholder of X-Cal.

* Breakfast with Nick Ferris, CEO of J-
Pacific Gold, and the ubiquitous John
Anderson, who is well-known in the Canadian
gold industry. John has been involved in the
Cafe since its inception and is another big
GATA supporter. He has a gold business
venture that I will bring to the attention of
Cafe members in the near future. Many of you
will love it. I am having dinner with Nick
tonight. J-Pacific continues to add to their
gold property portfolio.

* Dinner with two veteran Cafe members I met
on my last trip to Vancouver, when former
Normandy chairman Robert Champion de
Crespigny refused to meet with me after his
staff had scheduled a rendezvous in this
lovely city. That leads me to the lowlight of
my trip....

* While having a few brewskies on a gorgeous
rooftop terrace and enjoying the beautiful
weather, a gentleman at the table next to us
spilled his water all over our shoes. We
laughed and chatted a bit only to have the
other fellow say he was in the gold business.
We told him that we had just come from the
gold show,so he introduced himself: Bema Gold
CEO Clive Johnson. I then introduced myself
as the chairman of GATA. Johnson never looked
our way again and after a while got up and left,
never even acknowledging we were there. My
friends could not believe how rude he was. For
years he has done nothing but disparage GATA.

Two more goodies for you that I picked up on
my trip to Canada:

* There is a hedge book out there as toxic as
that of Ashanti when it blew up. A source
close to the Cafe has urged the company to
cover -- and it can but refuses to do so.

* The gold producers as a group have covered
far less of their forward sales than is
generally thought. This is very bullish news,
as it means that a good deal of the buying
that pushed gold to present levels has not
come from where most gold analysts think it
has. So many hedged gold producers remain the
buyers of the future.

Note AngloGold's comment that the company
will accelerate its hedge buybacks if the
price of gold advances dramatically. A number
of other gold producers plan to do what Anglo
is planning to do. That is why there will be
a gold panic. When many of them go to buy at
the same time, the price of gold will go
bonkers. There is just not the gold supply
available for that to occur without the price
of gold skyrocketing.

Friday's gold share setback is ideal for
loading the boat. It is a gift, as it appears
to me that the physical gold market is going
to seize up in the near future.
