Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

A friend asks for a chart comparing the performance
of the shares of hedged and unhedged gold mining
companies. We all have our favorite unhedged
companies, so maybe it is best to use the composite
index, the American Stock Exchange's Gold Bugs
index (quot;Basket of Unhedged Gold Stocksquot;), the HUI.
As for hedged companies, who else but the infamous
Barrick Gold, whose share price today is actually
lower than it was a year ago, despite gold's
tremendous rise?

The difference is more than 100 percent.
