Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

And now for the dirty little secret of the Gold Anti-Trust
Action Committee....

No, it has nothing to do with Bill Murphy's teeth, James
Turk's hair, Reg Howe's motorcycle, Mike Bolser's pocket
protectors, Andrew Hepburn's height, Bob Landis' tailor,
or, in the case of your secretary/treasurer, that girl in
Des Moines. (Besides, she said she was 18.)

GATA's dirty little secret is that a lot of us are in love
with silver too and, having followed the heroic Ted Butler,
know in our hearts that the same evil interests that have
been suppressing the price of gold have been doing the same
to silver, though we haven't quite nailed their mechanisms
down as we have done with gold.

Like Silas Marner or (for those of us who escaped high
school) Scrooge McDuck, late at night we closet ourselves
with our shiny white coins and bars, run our fingers over
them, dream of the day when their true value will be
recognized, and concoct ever-better hiding places for them.
(How about hollowed-out volumes of quot;Silas Marnerquot;? No one
would ever look there.)

Well, silver bugs, our day may be at hand.

First, there's this excerpt from GATA Chairman Bill
Murphy's quot;Midasquot; commentary tonight at
www.LeMetropoleCafe.com, contributed by a brilliant
quot;Midasquot; regular, Derek Van Artsdalen of San Antonio:

quot;Just a quick note on the action in the silver market.
One of the eeriest trading sessions I've ever seen. The
metal, despite all its publicity lately, has been just
hovering along all morning, mostly unchanged. This is
indeed strange, especially on a day like this, with gold
and the other metals moving up strongly. Since I have
no reputation to defend, I'll go out on a limb with the
following prediction, which is based on nothing but a
gut feeling: Silver is about to explode. It may not be
that far into the future when silver is, at last, truly a
'precious' metal. If I turn out to be completely wrong
on this call, I may consider starting my own precious
metals advisory newsletter.quot;

Second is something your secretary/treasurer noticed
tonight: that most of today's best performersamong the
major mining shares were SILVER minerseven though it
was GOLD that was up strongly today while silver itself
didn't go anywhere. The action indeed was very strange.

Here's the list, with the miners that have primary or
substantial silver production or resources marked by
asterisks:

Golden Star Resources, #43;9.8%
* Silver Standard, #43;9.2%
* Sterling Mining, #43;8.7
* Apex Silver, #43;7.9%
* Hecla, 7.7%
Nevsun, 7.6%
* Buenaventura, 7.4%
* Wheaton River, 7.4%
Freeport McMoRan, 6.8%
* Gammon Lake Resources, 6.2%
Iamgold, 6%
* Agnico-Eagle, 6%
* Coeur d'Alene, 5.6%

So why was someone buying all those silver shares today,
and who was it? If you can't find him in the vicinity of
Broad and Wall streets, maybe you can find him here:
