Thai central bank says gold curbs are working and may be tightened

Thailand's central bank governor said restrictions on gold trading have weakened the metal's influence on the baht and could be tightened further, as authorities step up scrutiny of the market for signs of illicit money flows.

In March the Bank of Thailand imposed a 50 million-baht ($1.5 million) daily limit on online gold trading per person and encouraged larger investors to settle transactions in U.S. dollars rather than baht. Governor Vitai Ratanakorn said the cap could be lowered to 30 million baht or less if necessary.
