Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

The fall dinner meeting of the Committee for Monetary
Research and Education will be of special interest to
gold's partisans, since its speakers will include Robert
A. Mundell, the economist who won the Nobel Prize
in 1999 for conceptualizing the euro; John Hathaway
of Tocqueville Asset Management, who runs the firm's
precious metals fund; and Marshall Auerback of the
Prudent Bear Funds, whose Internet commentary is widely
read for his knowing what's really going on with the
money markets and gold.

The CMRE dinner meeting will be held from 3 to 9 p.m.
Thursday, October 6, at the Union League Club at 38
East 37th St., New York City, just a few blocks from
Grand Central Station. Admission is $150 for CMRE
members and $165 for others.

To register or get more information, contact CMRE
President Elizabeth Currier at this address:

COMMITTEE FOR
MONETARY RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

Fall dinner meeting
Union League Club
38 East 37th St.
New York City
3-9 p.m.

Globalization -- Cowboys, Currencies, Conundrums, and Gold

Robert A. Mundell: Professor Mundell is godfather of the euro, for
which he won the Nobel Prize in 1999. He wrote then that the
euro "may be the most important development in the international
monetary system since the dollar replaced the pound sterling as the
dominant international currency soon after the outbreak of World War
I." In the 1960s Mundell originated the concept of the "optimal
currency area," which framed the debate that led to the creation of
a single currency, the euro, in 1999.

Alfred E. Eckes Jr.: Professor Eckes asks, "Is Globalization
Sustainable?" a sequel to his address to CMRE in 1999. (See
www.cmre.org.) Eckes is Ohio Eminent Research Scholar at Ohio
University; he is co-author of Globalization and the American
Century (Cambridge University Press, 2003); he is Executive Vice
President of the International Trade and Finance Association and
editor of the Global Economy Journal.

Eugene Schroder: Eugene Schroder is a rancher in Campo, Colorado,
and with his father organized a "tractorcade" to Washington in 1979.
He is an expert on the the Emergency Banking Relief Act of March
1933 and a study he did uncovered the text for CMRE monograph No.
51, "From Constitutional Republic to Corporate State: The Federal
Reserve Board, 1931-1934" by Walker F. Todd.

Raymond F. DeVoe Jr.: In his brilliant market letter, The DeVoe
Report, Raymond F. DeVoe Jr. provides analysis of what the Chinese
depegging the yuan against the dollar could mean.

John Hathaway: As Senior Partner and Portfolio Manager of
Tocqueville Asset Management, Hathaway is a major analyst and
spokesman for the gold market.

Howard Segermark: An experienced government relations counsel,
Segermark follows major topics in Washington.

Marshall Auerback: A regular contributor to the Prudent Bear Funds,
Auerback knows the global money markets.

Mickey Fouts: A CMRE member, Fout will make a Powerpoint
presentation with stunning pictures and compelling text from the
book "Cowboy Ethics" by James P.Owen, Wall Street veteran and
owner/partner of Austin Management. Owen contends that cowboy ethics
would benefit Wall Street and that honor and reputations should not
be for sale.
