Gold's enemies have not yet evaded the laws of physics

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:

Tuesday's final dispatch, "Scientists find economic process for creating gold from base metals," contrived a news story in an attempt to satirize the desperation of the central banks and major financial houses to suppress the gold price as the dollar-based financial system cracks apart.

Unfortunately, to some readers the dispatch seemed completely realistic. Some scurried frantically around the Internet for confirmation of that contrived news story. Others say they were nearly frightened into dumping their precious metals investments. For a few hours even two members of GATA's own board were faked out. Yikes!

Well, the Martians are NOT landing in New Jersey this time either, and your secretary/treasurer is sorry for any discomfort caused by the dispatch -- and sorrier still for what long has seemed to him to be a terrible lack of humor in the precious metals sector.

Yes, to exist in this sector one has to have a contrary nature, a willingness to maintain that all the money in the world is wrong, and thus a willingness to suffer the consequences. And yes, for years we have been pounded by the money power and the governments it controls.

But if you can't laugh at their ever-more apparent folly and venality, how do you survive?

Lincoln couldn't. "I laugh," he said during another dark time, "because I must not cry. That's all, that's all."

Besides, if you're going to be so literal about things, you might have caught the byline on the "news" story in Tuesday's dispatch, purportedly written by "Ben Dover" of the San Francisco "Comical." If that didn't give the dispatch away, maybe you should spend the next few months reading the monthly reports of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which are a lot funnier.

Maybe it just goes to show the credulity of our own side, how many of us will believe anything that suggests the omnipotence of government. If so, here's some REAL news for you: While the government people have much sophisticated technology at their disposal, they are NOT omnipotent; indeed, more often than not these days they are IDIOTS. They may consider themselves above the law but they have not yet evaded the laws of physics.

You can't be into the precious metals and their crucial purpose in the world financial system unless you're capable of skepticism. That skepticism should encompass everything, including these dispatches, should you continue reading them.

The cause of the precious metals needs your humor too. Being right isn't enough; we have to PERSUADE, and nobody who isn't already persuaded wants to spend time with humorless scolds.

Twain had an idea of how it can be done: "For your race, in its poverty, has unquestionably one really effective weapon -- laughter. Power, money, persuasion, supplication, persecution -- these can lift at a colossal humbug, push it a little, weaken it a little, century by century. But only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand."

So laugh at the fortresses of the money power, dammit -- laugh as loud as Joshua's trumpets. We just may get a similar result.
