Barrick dismisses talk of bid for Newmont

TORONTO -- Canada's Barrick Gold Corp., the world's biggest gold producer, shot down talk on Tuesday that it was looking to buy U.S. rival Newmont Mining Corp.

"We previously said that this rumor had no substance to it, and again today that remains very much the case," Vincent Borg, a spokesman for Barrick, told Reuters.
