The spring dinner meeting of the Committee for Monetary
Research and Education, to be held in New York on
Thursday, May 5, will hear from some of the world's
greatest partisans of gold as it considers economic
freedom and sound money.
* James Turk, editor of the Freemarket Gold & Money
Report, founder of GoldMoney, author of "The Coming
Collapse of the Dollar," and consultant to GATA, will
speak on "Why Sound Money is not a Lost Cause for
America."
* David Tice of Tice & Associates and the Prudent
Bear funds, will speak on the dollar and gold.
* James Grant, editor of Grant's Interest Rate
Observer, will comment on the United States'
consumption of most the savings of the rest of the
world.
* Bob Hoye, senior market strategist for Institutional
Advisors in Vancouver, will speak on economic
freedom and the policy experiments that work against
it.
Other speakers:
* Edwin Vieira, lawyer and expert on the history
of money in America.
* Monetary historian Alex Macdougall, who will recount
what happens when currencies fail.
* Dr. Bernd Fischer, economics minister for the German
embassy in Washington, who will speak on what the
euro means for the dollar.
* John Fund of The Wall Street Journal's
OpinionJournal.com.
* CMRE's chairman, former ambassador and
investment banker J. William Middendorf II.
The meeting will run from 4 to 9 p.m. and will be held
at the Union League Clubat 38 East 37th St., easy
walking distance from Grand Central Station.
