Dear Mr. Murdy:
I suspect that by now you've either read or been briefed on a recent
letter from Henry Fellerman, who wrote to you about his desire for
Newmont to support its shareholders by taking a more assertive stand
in defense of a truly free market for gold. My purpose in writing is
simply to affirm Fellerman's position and let you know that other
Newmont shareholders like me feel precisely the same way.
It's been painfully obvious to me that the playing field in gold has
been consciously tilted in favor of banking and fiat currency
interests for around a decade. While cyberspace is full of crazies,
all you need do to support Fellerman's contentions is to have your
staff survey the literature from a dozen or more legitimate
financial analysts who kindly grace the Internet with their views on
precious metals themselves, and whether mining stocks do or do not
reflect actual monetary (price) inflation, burgeoning debt at
personal, corporate, and governmental levels, and our nation's
woeful trade balance.
Among the many solid sites available and focused on this subject, I
would call your attention to www.GATA.org [1], which pulls no punches in
citing evidence of active "management" of the commercial gold
market.
Were you to research the matter as I propose, I'm quite confident
you would agree that a common share of Newmont should be trading
above $100. Thus, in the name of supporting the owners of your fine
company -- shareholders like me -- I'm asking you not to dismiss
Fellerman's concerns lightly but instead to take a more visible and
active role toward assuring a free market for your vital product.
