Help NYPost's John Crudele expose the PPT

Section: Daily Dispatches

Dear Friend of GTAA and Gold:

GATA's friend Mark Spengler read John Crudele's wonderful column in today's New York Post about the refusal of U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to acknowledge a request for access to the minutes of the President's Working Group on Financial Markets --

which you can find here ...

-- and asked: "How can we add fuel to this fire?"

A good question with, we hope, a good answer.

That is, GATA supporters in the United States should print a few copies of Crudele's column and send one each to their U.S. senators and U.S. representative with a covering letter asking their senators and representatives to obtain for them copies of the same minutes Crudele is seeking.

The members of Congress with better constituent service offices WILL pursue these requests, which, after all, are only reasonable. If the President's Working Group on Financial Markets isn't doing anything wrong, if it really isn't the Plunge Protection Team surreptitiously SUPPORTING some markets and SUPPRESSING others, why shouldn't Americans be able to inspect the records of its meetings?

Enough such requests from the public will be very hard to deny, and continued denial will prove embarrassing. More news organizations will pick up the story and suspicion of market manipulation will grow. Eventually that manipulation may be reported even in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and the Washington Post, though of course those will be the LAST major news organizations to risk offending the financial establishment that fills their pages with advertising.

You CAN make a difference -- and doing nothing makes nothing happen.
